Ingenia performs engineering activities for various projects, especially in the field of bio-energy, biofuels, waste treatment, circular economy, and emission reduction and odor control. Generally, engineering projects know four stages:

  1. Basis of Design (BOD). This is an engineering package based on the rough contours of the project, which mainly results in a product requirements document (e.g. definition of raw materials and products, available space,…) and boundary conditions (e.g. capacity, business case,…) from which a management decision can be made. A BOD also serves as a (management) benchmark for the further progress of the engineering project.
  2. Conceptual Engineering. This is an elaboration of the BOD where the main process steps in PFD(s), mass and energy balance and a lay-out are made in concept. Together with budget quotations and investment estimates based on key figures, the intended CAPEX and OPEX can be detailed further (typically < 20 to 30%) and used for an investment decision;
  3. Basic Engineering. After the investment decision, the Conceptual Engineering is further developed (i.e. P&ID’s, detailed lay-out and mass and energy balance, utilities, infrastructure, buildings,…), so that CAPEX and OPEX can be estimated in more detail (typically < 10 to 15%), multiple quotations are requested and the schedule is fixed so that in particular the time-critical and capital-intensive orders (long lead items) can be prepared and orders can be placed.
  4. Detail Engineering. This is engineering, predominantly electrical and mechanical (e.g. detailed drawings, piping, strength calculations, wiring diagrams,. ..)
